- We're Hiring
TL/DR: Multifactor is hiring. If you are (or know of) a talented engineering leader or individual contributor who cares deeply about forging the future of authentication, authorization, and auditing for the agentic era, you should probably check out our open roles on LinkedIn or Y Combinator and check back frequently.
The Problem We’re Solving
At Multifactor, we care deeply about defending the digital systems people rely on every day. Over the past decade, we’ve watched identity become the most consistently exploited weakness across government, enterprise, and consumer technology. And now, with the rise of agentic AI, that weakness is being tested in entirely new ways.
AI systems are no longer just assisting users; they're beginning to act on their behalf. They browse, transact, retrieve data, and execute workflows. But the infrastructure governing those actions aren’t built for this reality.
Traditional authentication and authorization systems assume human-initiated requests. Auditing systems assume clear lines of accountability. None of it was designed for autonomous agents operating across systems at scale.
We’re entering a world where software can think and act. However, we haven’t fully figured out how agentsthat software should be authenticated, authorized, or audited.
The infrastructure hasn’t caught up. Multifactor exists to rewrite the identity layer of the internet in real time. This isn’t a minor adjustment it’s a foundational shift in how trust works online. As a public benefit company, our mission is built into the organization itself. There’s no gatekeeping or closed systems. We’re creating the tools and security that the modern web needs, so that people and AI agents can collaborate securely.
Where We Are Now
We’re still in the early phases of building the systems that will come to define identity and security for the AI era. With a recent $15M seed round led by Nexus Venture Partners and support from investors, the importance of this work is clearly recognized. In fact, leaders at prominent organizations like Browserbase, Firecrawl, and Vercel have publicly called agent authentication one of their largest unsolved problems.
Being early means the technical direction isn’t set in stone. Every engineer on the team has the chance to make decisions that shape how the platform is built, from core infrastructure to open-source contributions. The team is growing quickly, and there’s room to take on responsibility for systems that others will rely on for years to come.
Who We’re Looking For
Engineering Leadership
We’re looking for engineers who lead by doing. You’ll make decisions about architecture and system design while writing code alongside the team. This role requires hands-on involvement in building infrastructure from scratch, establishing standards, and shaping the identity layer for AI-first systems. You’ll guide the technical direction of the team and take responsibility for what gets built and how, ensuring it’s reliable and secure.
Individual Contributors
We’re also looking for exceptional engineers who can take ownership of their work and contribute across the system. You’ll be hands-on building infrastructure that supports AI agents acting on behalf of users, implementing core features, and helping define standards. The role requires flexibility: priorities may shift, and you’ll work across multiple areas of the platform as needed. We’re looking for people who can build operate without precise specification, adapt to evolving challenges, and take responsibility for the quality and reliability of their work. At Multifactor, every engineer has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the architecture and standards of the future.
Life at Multifactor
No two days at Multifactor are the same. We’re building the standards for how AI systems and humans interact safely online, and that means much of the work is exploratory. Our modus operandi is finding hard problems to tackle, determining how to solve them, and defining the approach as we go. That responsibility comes with autonomy: you’ll make decisions about your work and help shape the systems and processes around it.
Who Thrives Here
The people who do well at Multifactor are self-motivated, curious, and energized by the mission itself. Startup life can be intense, priorities shift, problems evolve, and the work often requires learning as you go. You’ll need to be comfortable jumping into new projects, picking up new skills as you go, and collaborating closely with the team to solve problems together.
The work is demanding, but it’s also meaningful. The decisions you make and the systems you build will shape the foundation of identity and security for the next generation of AI-driven tools.
Let’s Build The Future Together
If you’re energized by the idea of joining an early-stage team, helping define the standards, and tackling important unsolved problems, we want to hear from you. Apply directly or explore open roles on LinkedIn or Y Combinator. And if someone you know would thrive in this environment, please share this post with them! The team we’re building today is what will make our ambitious mission possible.
We're redefining zero-trust — so you can protect your accounts with confidence.
Identity is your first and last line of defense, and the root cause of most application security breaches. Multifactor's provably secure zero-trust solutions cryptographically guarantee that only authorized users can access sensitive data, turning identity into your greatest asset in the fight against cyber threats.
